Police chief's tribute to worker

Lancashire's chief constable has paid tribute to a civilian worker who died when he was hit by a car close to the force's Hutton headquarters.

David Johnson, from Kirkham, was knocked down by a BMW on the A59 on Thursday. He died at the scene.

Mr Johnson, who was married with two children, worked as a senior ICT analyst and programmer at Hutton.

"David was a totally dedicated family man who adored his wife and children," said Chief Constable Steve Finnigan.

'Sadly missed'

"He had worked for the constabulary for 13 years and was known across the force, especially for his contribution to ICT Security," Mr Finnigan said.

"He was extremely professional and he will be sadly missed by his friends and colleagues in the constabulary."

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident, which happened near Drumacre Lane, at lunchtime.

The road was closed for five hours following the accident.

The driver of the BMW was shocked, but unhurt, police said.
