Man is arrested over death crash

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a Lancashire man died in a car crash on New Year's Day.

Steven Ball, 20, died when the Skoda Octavia he was in left Lostock Lane in Bamber Bridge, rolled down an embankment and caught fire.

Lancashire Police said the car could have been deliberately set on fire after the crash.

The man arrested is in custody and due to be questioned.

Two other men from Bamber Bridge were arrested within hours of the crash.

A 21-year-old and 18-year-old have been bailed pending further inquiries.

Earlier police said Mr Ball had been travelling in the car with "at least three other people" who were known to be friends.

Mr Ball was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency services were unable to save him from the burning car.

On Monday Mr Ball's mother Joan and stepfather John appealed for anyone with information to contact police.

Police are trying to establish who was driving the vehicle and who owned it.
