Witness appeal over fatal crash

Police have appealed for witnesses after a 20-year-old man died in a car crash in Lancashire on New Year's Day.

Offiers said the car left the A6 Lostock Lane at Bamber Bridge on a bend before plunging down an embankment.

Emergency services found the black Skoda ablaze at about 0200 GMT. The driver suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anyone who saw the vehicle, which was travelling towards the motorway, is asked to contact police.

Det Ch Insp Andy Murphy, of Lancashire Police, said: "This is a tragic incident that has resulted in a young man losing his life.

"We know the car travelled along Station Road and past the Hob Inn pub before turning left towards the motorway and along Lostock Lane.

"If anybody remembers seeing this vehicle, either around the time of the accident, or indeed earlier in the evening I would ask them to call the police."

The Skoda, registration DU52 JRV had not been reported stolen.
