Woman assaulted in seaside resort

A woman has been subjected to a serious sexual assault in Blackpool, police have said.

The 34-year-old victim was walking along Lytham Road, near Burlington Road and Rosebery Avenue, when a man approached her from behind.

She was forced into an alleyway where she was assaulted. The woman fought off her attacker who then left the scene on foot early on Saturday.

The man was white, around 5' 8" (1.72m) tall and wore dark clothing.

The incident happened at about 0030 BST.

Det Insp Paul Boyes, from Lancashire Police, said: "The appeal is for any witnesses who may have been in the area of the attack and saw anything untoward."
