Residents quizzed on council plan

People in the town could soon have their own council

People living in the Lancashire town of Great Harwood are being asked whether they want a separate council.

Questionnaires are being sent to every household by Hyndburn Borough Council for opinion on its proposal to establish a Great Harwood Town Council.

The consultation is happening a week after people in Darwen voted for a council to represent them.

The proposals are to be explored further at Great Harwood Area council meetings in November and January.

Councillor Lynn Wilson, chair of the area council, said: "People in Great Harwood are enthusiastic and innovative and take a keen interest in local matters.

"The regular big attendances at area council meetings demonstrate this, and so it's the perfect place to establish a successful town council."

A drop-in session is also being held for people who want to find out more at Bank Mill House on 25 November.
