Biker arrested after man's death

A 24-year-old man was arrested after the death of a man who was struck by a motorcycle near Blackpool seafront.

Derek Atherton, 58, was out walking his dog when he was hit by the motorcycle on south promenade, near the junction with Crystal Road, on Friday night.

He suffered leg, body and head injuries and was taken by ambulance to Blackpool Victoria Hospital, but died later.

The rider, who was also injured, was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He was interviewed by detectives and later released on bail, Lancashire Police said.

Investigations into the crash, which happened at about 2005 BST, are ongoing.

Although many witnesses have spoken to officers, police are still urging anyone who has yet to contact them to come forward.
