Man dies after house fire rescue

A man has died in hospital after being rescued by firefighters from a blaze at a house in Lancashire.

George Michael Cronfield, of Doncaster, was looking after the semi-detached property on Hornby Road, Blackpool, when the fire broke out.

He was found on the floor of a bedroom by fire crews after they broke into the house early on Saturday morning.

Neighbouring houses were evacuated as up to 20 firefighters tackled the blaze. An investigation is under way.

Mr Cronfield, who was in his 60s, was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital but died shortly afterwards.

Police said he had been visiting the resort from South Yorkshire to look after the large property.

A spokeswoman said the scene was now being examined for clues about what started the blaze.
