Prostitute raped in city attack

A 26-year-old prostitute was raped at knifepoint after she got into a man's car in Lancashire.

The woman was approached by the man in St Mary's Street in Preston city centre in the early hours of Saturday.

After she got into the back of the vehicle the man produced a knife and raped her before she managed to escape from the vehicle.

Lancashire Police have arrested a 26-year-old man and he is due to be questioned by officers.

Det Insp David McKenna, of Lancashire police, said: "Street workers are very vulnerable to this type of attack and police are treating it as a very serious incident.

"I would warn other street workers to take extreme care and avoid putting themselves in a situation where this type of incident can occur."
