Water back on after burst repair

The water supply is back to normal in homes in Lancashire which were affected by repairs to a burst main.

United Utilities said properties in the Forton and Scorton areas were affected by the disruption on Thursday night.

Engineers turned the water off while they investigated and repaired the broken pipe, which was below a field in Garstang.

A spokeswoman for the company said supplies were reinstated in the early hours of Friday.

She added: "We used two emergency supply vehicles to pump water directly into the main a bit further down from the burst, and this kept supplies on for the vast majority of the 4,000 homes.

"Only a handful of customers in higher geographical areas were affected by low water pressure, or loss of water, while the repair took place.

"Repairs were completed at 0230 BST and supplies would have been back to normal when people were getting up this morning."
