Cyclists can get a sneak preview of the Blackpool illuminations by seeing the resort's famous lights on two wheels rather than four.

The Ride the Lights event is being held on Tuesday night, ahead of the official switch-on on Friday.

Bike riders can travel down the traffic-free promenade for free and take part in all or some of the route between Starr Gate and Red Bank Road.

About 5,000 riders took part in the event last year.

Riders are encouraged to decorate their own bikes with lights, and must have one white light at the front and a red light at the back.

The presenters of BBC Two's Top Gear will officially switch the lights on on Friday night.
