Man injured as car strikes crane

A man has been flown to hospital after his car struck a crane on the M6 in north Lancashire.

The accident happened at roadworks near Forton services on the northbound carriageway between junction 34 at Lancaster and junction 35 at Carnforth.

The driver of the car had to be freed from the wreckage by firefighters and was taken by air ambulance to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

Police said the northbound carriageway was closed for investigations.

It has led to long delays on the M6 and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

The extent of the man's injuries is not yet known, a Lancashire Police spokeswoman said.
