Woman found with serious injuries

A road has been closed after a woman was found with serious injuries lying on the carriageway.

Police said the woman was discovered by two members of the public on Grane Road in Haslingden, Lancashire, near the Haslingden Bypass Bridge on Saturday.

She was taken to hospital where she remains in a serious condition.

Grane Road and one lane of the Haslingden Bypass have been closed and anyone with information is urged to contact police.

Officers said it was not yet clear how the woman came to be on the road, which is the main route between Rossendale and Blackburn.

'Open mind'

A police spokesman said it was not yet clear whether the woman had been the victim of an assault or had been hit by a car.

Det Insp Stuart Dixon, who is leading the investigation, said: "We are still trying to work out exactly how this woman came to be on the Grane Road with these injuries.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the area in the early hours of the morning who may have witnessed something to contact police."

He added: "I would also like to speak with anyone who saw a lone female in the area in the early hours of this morning.

"We currently have an open mind as to how this woman sustained her injuries and any amount of information could help us piece together exactly what has happened."
