Roads closed over explosion risk

Several roads have been closed in west Lancashire over fears of an explosion in the aftermath of a fire on an industrial estate.

The blaze started at National Steel on the Stanley industrial estate in Skelmersdale in the early hours.

Crews put out the fire and are damping down at the site, but there are concerns about the risk of an explosion from acetylene cylinders inside.

No-one was injured and there are no houses affected by the cordon.

But Lancashire Police said the exclusion zone may affect people travelling to work on Friday.

Neverstitch Road and surrounding streets are closed because of the fire between Glenburn Road and School Lane.

Access is affected to several nearby businesses including John Hall, Allkare, Skelmersdale Football Club and Vitax Ltd.
