Cable accident causes explosion

A workman was injured in an explosion after cutting through an electricity cable in Blackpool.

The man was hit by the blast outside a restaurant on South Promenade, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said.

The 29-year-old man was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital after sustaining severe burns.

The underground electric cable was later made safe after the incident at about 1000 BST, a spokesman said.
