A man has been jailed for killing his housemate during an argument in Lancashire.

Ian Aitken, 46, was stabbed in the neck at the house he shared with Jason Moran in Firbeck, Skelmersdale, last year, and died at the scene.

Moran pleaded guilty to Mr Aitken's manslaughter following a hearing at Manchester Crown Court.

The 23-year-old was sentenced to three years in prison for the fatal attack on 7 December 2007.

'Massive grief'

Det Ch Insp Tim Leeson from Lancashire Constabulary said: "Knife crime causes massive grief and pain to both families and today's sentence demonstrates how serious it is taken.

"If you carry a knife you actually have very little control over what might happen.

"You could find yourself in circumstances you can't control and things can get out of hand.

"As in this case, one stab wound or slash or cut is enough to kill.

"I would like to reassure local people that this was a domestic incident in which the offender was caught quickly."
