A man has been charged with the murder of his wife, whose body was found in a fire at their home in Lancashire.

The body of Pamela Mulholland, 52, was found by firefighters who broke into the house in Heritage Way, Tarleton, in the early hours of Friday.

A post-mortem examination revealed she died from stab wounds.

David Mulholland, 57, who was rescued from the house, has been charged with murder and is due to appear before Ormskirk Magistrates' Court on Monday.

It took firefighters more than three hours to bring the blaze under control at the newly-built 350,000 house.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing.
