Redevelopment plans go on display

Plans to redevelop Lancaster's canal corridor have gone on display in the city.

The original proposals from developers have been revised after objections from the public.

There is now more green space and houses and the buildings and office blocks are smaller.

Supporters said a revamp was vital to help Lancaster compete with other towns and cities but opponents said it would strip the town's character.

They also claimed it would create too much traffic.

People in Lancaster organised a carnival in protest against the plans in March.

Organisers said several proposals for widespread renovation "threaten to destroy the fabric of the community".

The plans are on display at Lancaster and Morecambe Town Halls.
