Light shed on famous attraction

Illuminations
The promenade lights are switched on in late August

The public can peep behind the scenes of one of Blackpool's most famous tourist attractions.

The doors are opening on the illuminations' depot in the resort where staff put together the annual light show.

Visitors will be able to see the storage areas where the displays are kept and the workshops where new designs are worked on.

The open day is being held at the Rigby Road base on Thursday.

The electricians, joiners, mechanics, painters and engineers will swap roles to be the tour guides.

Councillor Maxine Callow, portfolio holder for regeneration and tourism, said the day was a "wonderful opportunity".

"Not only will they be able to see how the installations are made, but they'll also see some of the famous lights that have graced the promenade in recent years."

The illuminations are switched on on 29 August, shining though until 2 November.
