Boy, 11, dies after car collision

An 11-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a car in Lancashire.

The accident happened on Blackpool Road at its junction with Woodplumpton Road in Preston on Sunday morning.

Calvin Leary, from Ashton, was taken to Royal Preston Hospital with serious injuries, but died a few hours later on Sunday evening.

Lancashire Police said the driver of the white Volkswagen vehicle involved was not injured. Officers are appealing for witnesses.

Sgt Adrian Adams, who is leading the investigation, said: "We are still trying to establish exactly what happened and I would ask anyone with any information to come forward."
