Arrests over speeding fine fraud

Police in Lancashire have arrested 15 people in an operation targeting speeding fine fraud.

The operation, by officers with the county's road safety partnership, was to tackle people "offloading the blame for speed camera offences".

Twelve men and three women were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said it was the first operation of its kind by the force.

Ch Insp Terry Woods said: "This operation should demonstrate our determination to take firm action against anyone suspected of dishonestly avoiding liability for speed camera offences.

"This is not only a local issue but a national one which Lancashire Constabulary takes very seriously."

He said passing speed camera endorsements on to another person was "a serious criminal offence".

Those arrested are due to be questioned.
