Teenager dies in motorway crash

A 16-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car as he walked on a motorway in Greater Manchester.

The teenager, who is believed to have been from Burnley in Lancashire, was struck at junction 17 of the M60 at Prestwich on Sunday evening.

He was taken to Fairfield General Hospital in Bury where he later died.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said it was "unclear" why the teenager was on the motorway and appealed for witnesses.

He was wearing a black hooded jumper with a red top underneath, black jogging bottoms and black trainers.

The accident happened at about 1930 BST.
