Tories take control of Rossendale

The Conservatives strengthened their power across Lancashire with a strong showing in the local elections.

The party grabbed three seats from Labour to take control of Rossendale Council, a previously hung authority.

Tories also remained in charge of Chorley (two gains), Hyndburn (one gain) and West Lancashire (two gains).

The Liberal Democrats lost control of Pendle after surrendering eight seats, but had a better night in Burnley, where they gained five seats.

There was no change in Preston, where there is no overall control.

Blackburn-with-Darwen also remains with no overall control, despite Labour losing four seats.
