Councillors look set to approve the new location for the Royal Lancashire Show, despite more than 100 objections.

The summer agricultural show was cancelled last year after water logging affected its site in Ribchester.

Planning permission from Wyre Council is being sought for a new site for the show land at Myerscough near Garstang.

About 130 objection letters have been sent, citing concerns such as traffic congestion. Council officers recommend the application is given the go-ahead.

Among the objectors to the Duchy of Lancaster-owned site are the secretaries of the Great Eccleston and Garstang Shows.

Traffic management

Concerns have also been raised by the Lancashire Branch of the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England.

The objectors fear traffic chaos on the A6 and the effect on other local agricultural shows.

Organisers say that the site is appropriate as a showground and that they have devised traffic management plans.

Between 8,000 and 12,000 vehicles are expected at the show, planned for 18 to 20 July.

Wyre Council is considering the application on Wednesday.
