Inquiry over police speed camera

The investigation will look at how the speed guns were calibrated
An independent police inquiry has begun into whether motorists in Lancashire were wrongly given speeding tickets.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is looking at whether a member of police staff failed to properly set up a mobile speed camera.

They are also investigating whether four other members of staff failed to correctly process court documents.

Lancashire Police said they realised the investigation would raise concerns but anyone affected would be contacted.

Lancashire Constabulary identified two irregularities in its Central Processing Unit during an internal review and voluntarily referred the matters to the IPCC.

The Central Processing Unit is responsible for administering sanctions relating to road traffic incidents.

This includes overseeing speed cameras and processing documentation required by courts.
