Police teen cadet scheme launched
Police
Police said the cadets would get an insight into life at a police station
Teenagers in Lancashire are being given an opportunity to sample life in the force by joining up as police cadets.

The Northern Division of Lancashire Constabulary is setting up a cadet scheme aimed at 16 to 19-year-olds who are interested in a policing career.

The 40-week volunteer scheme will teach cadets about police law, procedure and crime prevention, as well as sport and self-defence activities.

The young recruits will also be able to work towards a BTEC qualification.

'Unique opportunity'

Pc Kath Bromilow, who is running the scheme, said: "The aim is to have an intake of 28 cadets in July. We will shortlist 40 applicants and run an assessment day before choosing the final group.

"This is a great, unique opportunity for young people who may want to work for the police in the future or who simply want to help within their local community."

It is the first time the cadet scheme has been organised for the Lancaster and Morecambe areas.
