Rapist guilty over abuse images
Arun Patnaik
Arun Patnaik will serve the prison sentences concurrently
A man found guilty of raping two prostitutes in Preston and Manchester has been convicted for possessing a collection of child abuse images.

Arun Patnaik, 31, of Delphene Avenue, Blackpool, was sentenced to 28 months in prison by Manchester Crown Court.

He pleaded guilty to owning the images and will serve the prison term concurrently with the life sentences he was given in November 2006 for rape.

Lancashire Police said they found the images at Patnaik's home in Blackpool.

Det Ch Insp Justin Srivastava, from the force's Major Investigation Team, said: "I do not know whether Patnaik would have gone on to harm a child directly, but I believe these images show his offending behaviour was escalating."

Patnaik assaulted a 26-year-old woman in Manchester in February 2006, and a 32-year-old in Preston two months later. Both were prostitutes.

He is serving a minimum of 11 years and 160 days in prison for the two rape offences.
