Checks made on bad bus behaviour

Spot checks are being carried out on buses in Blackpool to clamp down on vandalism and bad behaviour.

Officials from the resort's Safer Travel Unit and police have been boarding buses, including school transport, to check on travellers.

In one hour, 15 people were taken off the vehicles by officers for anti-social behaviour.

The campaign was organised by BSafe, a partnership between the council, police and transport companies.

CCTV cameras are also used on school buses to record bad behaviour or crime.

Councillor Sue Wright, cabinet member with responsibility for community safety and vice chairwoman of Bsafe Blackpool, said: "While many passengers are perfectly responsible on board, it appears that a minority spoil the experience for the rest.

"The intention of the campaign is to keep watch and end bad behaviour to ensure the majority of good, law-abiding citizens feel safe, reassured and confident when travelling under these tighter controls."
