An improved coastal path for cyclists, walkers and horse riders has been officially opened in Lancashire.

The path runs along a former railway line from Aldcliffe to Glasson Greenway.

Located on the River Lune estuary flood plain, the site runs almost parallel with the A588 main road, which connects Poulton-le-Flyde with Lancaster.

To mark the opening of the path the council is holding a guided bike ride, wildlife walks and a cycling roadshow.

Part of the path, between Conder Green and Aldcliffe, is also part of National Cycle Network Route 6 which links Lancaster with Preston.

The route needed renovation due to problems with poor signage, vandalised ameneties and overgrown and invasive vegetation.
