Fish and chips is a traditional part of a trip to Blackpool
|
The traditional Blackpool "chippy" is to become a work of art.
Fish and chip fryers are being asked to produce photographic portraits of their seaside businesses for an art gallery exhibition.
It aims to celebrate the cultural differences between Blackpool's chippies, including smaller shops and the main award-winning eateries.
A total of 15 fryers will take part in the exhibition, planned for the Grundy Art Gallery in the summer.
The project is being funded by the National Lottery and will include photographic training for the chosen fryers.
Audio recordings will also form part of the exhibition, with shop owners talking about what fish and chips add to their local community - and Blackpool in general.
Fryers will be picked from across the resort

Councillor David Owen, from Blackpool Council, said: "Fish and chips are an integral ingredient in Blackpool's iconic status and this project aims to applaud its cultural contribution.
"Asking the owners to delve into the world of art, through their own interpretation, is a wonderful way to celebrate a local tradition, a livelihood and a meal synonymous with seaside resorts like Blackpool.
"I'm sure the fryers will produce some diverse and fascinating material."
The project is part of a wider programme at the Grundy to look at Blackpool's cultural significance.
