Libraries to close in budget cuts
County Hall, Preston
Councillors voted through the planned budget
Nine libraries are to close in Lancashire to help the county council balance the books.

Councillors also voted for a council tax rise of 4.9% at the annual budget meeting at County Hall in Preston.

Councillor Anne Brown, cabinet member for resources and performance, told the meeting that the budget plans had presented "difficult" decisions.

Fleetwood Museum, which was threatened with closure, will remain open for another year.

A review of its funding options will be carried out.

Ms Brown added: "I believe that the budget and the associated council tax represent the best compromise between services that we will, and will not, deliver, the funding available from the government and the call on the council tax payer."
