Tours around the city's clock tower are planned
The newly-repaired town hall clock is striking over Lancaster again after six months of work.

Extensive maintenance has been carried out on the Grade II-listed building to stop rainwater getting into the historic centrepiece.

Lancaster City Council said that patchy repairs had been carried out before, but that major work had become urgent to keep the clock tower intact.

The work began in July last year and cost more than £300,000.

It includes repointing the tower, new internal workings and a newly-glazed clock face.

The council says that the clock is now up and running again, but "some fine-tuning may be required over the next few days to ensure accuracy".

Tours to the top of the clock tower are also planned.
