Woman killed in blast identified

An investigation is under way into the cause of the explosion
A woman who died in an explosion at a BAE Systems armaments site in Lancashire has been identified.

Lynda Wilkins, 47, from Leyland, had been handling explosives at the site in Euxton near Chorley when the blast happened on Wednesday morning.

Mrs Wilkins, who had worked at the company since 1976, was married and had a daughter.

A spokesman for Bae Systems said her colleagues were very upset and would not return to work until Monday.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has opened an investigation to find out how the explosion occurred.

Emergency services were called to the scene just after 1000 GMT but police said there was no danger to the public.
