Firefighters at BAE Systems, Chorley
An investigation is under way into the cause of the explosion
A female worker has been killed in an explosion at a BAE Systems armaments site in Lancashire.

BAE Systems confirmed that one of their employees died in the incident at the Royal Ordnance Factory on Dawson Lane in Euxton, Chorley, on Wednesday.

Emergency services were called to the scene just after 1000 GMT but police said there was no danger to the public.

The woman was thought to have been handling explosive material. An investigation has been launched.

BAE Systems say their thoughts are with the family of the employee, who has not yet been named.

The firm has several other sites in the Lancashire area at Warton, Preston and Salmesbury.
