'Super casino' panel begins work

Blackpool is believed to be one of the favourites

The group of people which will decide whether Blackpool will be chosen as the site of the UK's only "super casino" was beginning work on Monday.

Blackpool is believed to be the favourite, along with Glasgow, to be chosen by the government.

The five-strong independent panel will advise the government on the most suitable location.

It is expected they will take one year to reach their final decision on where the Las Vegas-style casino will be.

Under the Gambling Act, only one large casino can be built.

Opponents fear the changes will lead to an explosion in problem gambling, especially among vulnerable people.
