Cycle route creates college link
A new route has been opened for cyclists in east Lancashire.

Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council opened the new pathway on Sunday in conjunction with Sustrans, the national transport charity.

The new route goes through the heart of Blackburn and links the National Cycle Network to Blackburn College.

It is part of a nationwide scheme to connect schools, colleges and communities to the 9,500 miles of the National Cycle Network.

'Great for health'

The opening of the new route coincides with Bike Week which finishes next weekend.

Peter Foster, the North West regional manager for Sustrans, said: "We hope that this great new cycling and walking facility will encourage local students and others to explore Blackburn by bike or on foot.

"Cycling is great for health and fitness and is a quick way to get about town."

The National Cycle Network is intended to help revitalise cycling and walking in the UK.
