The lido was too costly to maintain
A 70-year-old open air swimming pool in Lancashire is to be closed for good.

The lido at Marsden Park in Nelson has been shut to the public for four years and is now to be filled in.

Councillors at Pendle gave the go-ahead to plans to redevelop the pool and improve the park at a meeting on Thursday night.

The proposals include creating a dog-free family area in the park, a new entrance and changing facilities and parking for the sports pitches.

The pool had suffered vandalism in recent years and residents were keen to see improvements, a report to councillors said.
