MP's piggy bank rejected
Lindsay Hoyle MP
Mr Hoyle had held his Bradford & Bingley account since 1970
A Lancashire MP has closed his bank account after being told he could not deposit £800 in small change.

Lindsay Hoyle, MP for Chorley, tried to bank the sum at his local branch of the Bradford and Bingley (B&B).

But after being told cashiers would only accept five bags, Mr Hoyle decided to close his account.

He described the bank's policy as "absolutely bonkers".

B&B has admitted operating the bag-limit policy.

Mr Hoyle, who had collected the money in the family piggy bank, said: "They just refused to accept the money because of the number of bags."

A spokesman for the Bradford and Bingley said: "Our staff do have some discretion and perhaps somebody should have looked a little bit closer at this one."
