Man, 79, accused of Gillingham wife murder given bail

A 79-year-old man accused of murdering his wife has appeared before Maidstone Crown Court and been released on conditional bail.

Alan Thomas, of Deanwood Drive, Gillingham, is accused of killing his wife, Winifred, 77, at their home on Sunday 9 May.

Kent Police said a post-mortem examination had showed Mrs Thomas died as a result of drowning.

A bail application was heard at the crown court on Thursday.

Mr Thomas is next due to appear in court on 30 July.
