Chartham woman in court charged with sister's murder

A woman has appeared in court charged with murdering her sister who was found with multiple stab wounds in a field in Kent.

Phoebe Barton, 49, who was also charged with possession of an offensive weapon, appeared before Dover magistrates and was remanded in custody.

She lived with her sister in Highland Road, Chartham.

The body of Karen Barton, 51, was found in a field off Rentain Road, Chartham, near Canterbury, on 9 May.

Tests showed she died from stab wounds.

Ms Barton's body was found by dog walkers in an area known locally as Pickett's Field.

Phoebe Barton is due to appear before Maidstone Crown Court on 1 June.
