Canterbury City councillor on sex charges

A Canterbury city councillor has been charged with 20 sex offences.

Martin Fisher, 60, of Queens Road, Whitstable, was remanded in custody after appearing before Dover Magistrates' Court.

The councillor faces 20 charges including indecent assault, sexual touching and making and possessing indecent images of children.

The charges relate to alleged offences against two children under the age of 16, and one adult.

Mr Fisher has not yet entered a plea.

The offences are alleged to have happened between 1982 and 2010.

Mr Fisher, who represents the Tankerton ward, will next appear at Canterbury Magistrates' Court on 16 April.

The council's Conservative group said Mr Fisher had been expelled from the group following the allegations.
