Sheerness RNLI rescues unconscious sailor hit by boom

A man has been rescued by Sheerness Lifeboat after he was knocked unconscious by his yacht's boom.

The lifeboat located the yacht, Dream Chaser, after another crewmember alerted the RNLI. The man, 50, from Strood, was treated at hospital.

The incident happened at about 1800 BST on Sunday near Salt Pan Reach.

Earlier in the day the lifeboat was launched to tow a 13ft (3.96m) boat to safety which had broken down in West Swale.
