Police are treating a fire that swept through a former hotel in Margate as suspicious.

About 50 firefighters tackled the fire, which spread throughout the three-storey building in Sweyn Road, Cliftonville.

Kent Fire & Rescue Service said the block of flats was being renovated and there was thought to be nobody inside.

A spokeswoman said the building went up in flames at 0500 GMT and was brought under control eight hours later.
