Large fire at recycling centre

Firefighters have been tackling a large fire at a household waste recycling centre in Kent.

Six crews were called to the fire in a single-storey warehouse at the site on Station Road, Northfleet earlier.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said the fire broke out in a rubbish bay at the depot and the building was heavily smoke logged.

The recycling centre, which opened last year, is closed to the public while crews damp down and check for hotspots.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
