Woman's body recovered from river

A woman's body has been recovered from the River Medway by coastguards.

The body, thought to be that of a woman in her 50s, was spotted by a fisherman in a boat near the Command House pub in Chatham at about 0730 GMT.

The body was recovered close to Sun Pier and brought ashore to Chatham Marina. Sheerness Inshore Lifeboat was also launched to help recover the body.

Kent Police said the death was being investigating but it was not being treated as suspicious at this stage.

Medway Coastguard deputy station officer Richard Rodgers, who pulled the body from the river, said it had probably been in the water for less than 24 hours.
