Procession for Italy crash biker

Michael Vercoe
Michael Vercoe was said to be "living the dream through the open road"

About 100 bikers have taken part in a funeral procession for a Kent motorcyclist killed in an accident in the mountains of northern Italy.

Michael Vercoe, of West Kingsdown, died along with Colin Morrish, 63, from Rochester, and Wendy Pointer, 60.

Mr Vercoe's wife Fay was badly injured in the crash in September, but recovered enough to attend the funeral.

The riders escorted the cortege from Farningham to Eltham Crematorium, in south London, on Friday afternoon.

'Lived the dream'

Fellow motorcyclist Bob Sloaper said: "It's a difficult time because of the tragic and untimely death of Michael.

"However we will celebrate the life of somebody who lived the dream through the open road.

"It's very disturbing and distressing for all the members of the biking community, but far more so for the families and loved ones of these people."

Mr Vercoe had been on holiday in Italy when he died.

Mr and Mrs Vercoe, Mr Morrish and his partner Ms Pointer had been on two bikes which were in collision a lorry in Mezzolombardo on 22 September.

The accident happened near a new tunnel, which has a dual carriageway inside but switches to single lanes outside.

The funerals of Mr Morrish and Ms Pointer were both held in October.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing.
