Thousands of telephone callers in the Maidstone area of Kent have been hit by a fault which means their calls can be overheard without them knowing. BT says it has brought in a team of specialist engineers to try to trace the source of the problem. A spokeswoman said they were aware of a software problem in the area, which is causing overhearing of calls and crossed lines. She apologised but said they did not know when the problem would be solved.
