Customs officer held in drug raid

A Customs officer was among seven people arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking, police have confirmed.

The 50-year-old man was detained at his home in Dover, Kent, on Sunday, along with four other men, who were also arrested at their homes in the county.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police special projects team also held a 43-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman at Dover harbour earlier in the day.

Their boat arrived loaded with 55lb (25kg) of cannabis, police said.

The arrests, supported by officers from HM Revenue and Customs and the UK Border Agency, were part of an operation targeting what police believe to be an organised criminal network involved in drugs trafficking.

The Customs officer was later bailed.
