Police think the attackers were after Christmas club money

A 67-year-old man was kicked, punched and threatened with a knife during a robbery at his home. The man suffered a broken nose, cuts and severe bruising to his face during the attack at Luckow Road, Paddock Wood, in the early hours of Saturday. Kent Police said two men knocked on his front door and when he answered they pushed past him and demanded money. Officers believe the men knew the victim was responsible for collecting Christmas club money for a local group. They were unable to find any money and left with some cigarettes. 'Extremely brave' Officers said the victim was kept in hospital overnight but will need further treatment at a hospital in East Grinstead, West Sussex, for his injuries. Det Con Neil Martin said: "The only reason for this attack that we can think of is that the two men believed there was Christmas club money kept there. "The victim was extremely brave in standing up to these two thugs and refusing to say whether there was any money in the house. "If anyone has any information about who might be responsible for this very nasty attack I would ask them to please contact police."
