Fishing boat catches fire at sea

Fishing vessel on fire
Smoke was pouring from the cabin as the boat arrived in harbour

A fishing and diving vessel with 12 people on board had to be brought back to harbour in Kent when fire broke out in the cabin area.

Ramsgate RNLI lifeboat was sent to the scene after a Mayday call from the 45ft (14m) pleasure craft.

Six fire appliances from Kent Fire and Rescue service waited at the harbour for the vessel's return and put out the blaze. No one was injured.

A spokesman said the fire is thought to have started in the electrical wiring.

"The skipper did all the right things and we can only praise him for keeping the fire under control," he said.
