Museum asks for donkey whisperer

A Kent museum has appealed for help from a donkey whisperer but has specified they should speak Romanian.

Staff at the Museum of Kent Life said it had brought in new donkeys after its new operators told them to introduce more exciting animals to the farmyard.

The two animals, Ellie and Dora, have been wary of their new surroundings and need help to adapt to a working life.

Ellie came from a local rescue centre and pregnant Dora was transported from Romania this week.

Ferret World

The museum staff hope they will eventually give rides to children, but want a donkey whisperer to help them follow instructions.

A spokesperson for the museum said: "Coaxing them out of their enclosure with carrots isn't working."

They needed a Dr Dolittle, and "preferably one who speaks Romanian", she added.

Three ferrets have also been added to the rural museum in Sandling to become part of the new Ferret World attraction.

John Jordan, museum director, said: "Since recently joining the EU, Romania has prohibited the use of donkeys on public highways, and unfortunately many of them have been either abandoned or transported to Italy where they become part of the meat trade.

"So I'm very pleased we've been able to provide a secure and loving home for Ellie and Dora, and I've no doubt that we, along with a little donkey whispering, will enable them to settle in very well."
